Achēv is committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion and to creating opportunities that empower people to achieve their potential. Through our policies, practices and professional development, we aim to increase awareness and reduce barriers in order to positively influence the communities we serve.
Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination
Achēv is fully committed to continuing our evolution as a multicultural and anti-racist organization. We do not, and shall not, discriminate on the basis of individuals’ differences in age, colour, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, veteran status, and other characteristics that make each individual unique. We commit to conducting institutional racism and oppression review of our policies, procedures and practices and the ongoing development of a multicultural and anti-racist work environment and culture that promotes equity and respect for all. Where we provide programs for specific identified groups, it is done based on funding guidelines and efforts to provide opportunities to communities that have faced discrimination or other disadvantages. These are designed to help equalize the playing field in society and the workplace. Employment decisions will be made based on objective job requirements, and accommodations will be made wherever possible to address unique needs. Indigenous Peoples and Land Acknowledgement
For thousands of years, Indigenous peoples inhabited and cared for this land and for many, this is still their home. At Achēv, we recognize their perseverance and survival through many hardships and respectfully acknowledge that we are on the appropriated homelands of Indigenous peoples. We endeavour to address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action to honour Indigenous people’s historical and contemporary contributions to Canada. This Land Acknowledgement is one of the ways in which we work to further develop our relationships with each other and the land we work on and live in. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work with, and in support of, Indigenous peoples to help address inequities that persist to this day.
