This program was created to empower young women to become more engaged in their community through volunteerism. Volunteer experience has become an important consideration when hiring. Our program helps young women develop the necessary skills to become agents of change in their community. The program is designed to meet the specific needs of each participating cohort to ensure every cohort receives the necessary assistance to achieve success.

Through the development of strong community relationships, EmpowHer has become a well-recognized and popular program that fills up quickly.

The Elevate program is designed to respond to a range of challenges faced by newcomer women.

Black Youth School Success Initiative (BYSSI)

The Black Youth School Success Initiative (BYSSI) is a new pilot program for Black youth in grades six to 12. An initiative of the Peel District School Board’s “We Rise Together” action plan, this program brings together Black-led organizations, schools and mainstream community agencies to provide support for Black youth in the Peel Region. Delivered through a culturally appropriate lens, while understanding the lived experiences of Black youth, the program provides support in academics, mentorship, motivation, self-esteem, cultural and self-discovery.

"I came to Achēv [The Centre for Education & Training] at Don Mills and sat with Hazel, who explained the job search process to me, coached me on improving my communication and interview skills; helped me in writing a good resume and connected me with The City of Toronto for the Camp Counseling position. This which was my very first job and I am really thankful for all the help I got which allowed me to obtain my first position. I am still working for The City of Toronto in different positions such as drop-in, after school recreation centre and as a Basketball Instructor / Monitor. I believe that because of this opportunity given to me at such a young age, doors will be opened for me to get a job with The City when I am finished school. Based on my experience, I encourage youth and adults to join Achēv [The Centre for Education & Training] to pursue a great future in their career of choice."
