Build Your Workforce While Supporting the Next Generation of Skilled Trades Talent

Foundations for the Future – Try-a-Trade Program for Youth (General Carpenter), delivered by Achēv in partnership with Blue Branch, is seeking employer partners to provide 8-week paid work placements for motivated, job-ready youth who have completed pre-apprenticeship training and are eager to launch careers in the skilled trades.

Access Job‑Ready Talent

Participants complete:

  • Hands-on Carpentry Training (403A) with practical construction experience
  • Multi-Trade Exposure in Electrical (309A) and Sheet Metal (308A)
  • 4 weeks of carpenter training, 2 weeks of secondary trades exposure, and 1 week of job readiness training 
  • Jobsite-Ready Certifications including WHMIS, Working at Heights, First Aid, and Forklift
  • Strong Employability Skills through job readiness and workplace communication training
  • Graduates enter placements motivated, skilled, and ready to contribute

Wage Subsidy Support

A wage subsidy of $250 per week will be provided to employer partners for the duration of the 8-week placement

Dedicated Employer Support

Employers receive dedicated support from our Employer Liaison during the placement to help ensure everything runs smoothly.

We would welcome the chance to speak with you about how an 8-week placement can help meet your workforce needs. By partnering with us, you’ll gain access to motivated, job-ready talent while helping develop the next generation of skilled trades professionals.

Eligibility
  • Located in Cambridge, within Waterloo Region
  • Employ participants directly for the full 8-week placement duration and complete all required program documentation and check
  • Have not conducted recent layoffs and will not displace existing employees
  • Commit to a safe and respectful workplace
  • Be licensed to operate in Ontario and registered with CRA
  • Pay at least Ontario minimum wage
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations (AODA, ESA, Human Rights Code, OHSA, etc.)
  • Ensure all placements are supervised by an experienced carpenter
  • Provide adequate WSIB or equivalent third-party liability insurance
  • Maintain adequate third-party liability insurance
  • Ensure placements align with approved trade standards
  • Not receiving another wage subsidy through the province of Ontario for this placement
